That alone would have been enough to give RR the edge if the level select screen wasn't so pretty to look at. Risky's Revenge had me at the last level before I even realized it, and I hated how HGH removed the continuous world with the Wrench flight mechanic. Ultimately both these games felt too small for me. The trap at the end of HGH was a bit more clever, but etcetera etcetera etcetera. RR gives you the the plot at the beginning, but the ending trap is so cliche. HGH has better storytelling, but its so chaotic and there isn't any focus until the end. RR gives a slightly bigger world with bigger and better dungeons, but the story is lame. I LOVE the shapeshifting that HGH gives us, but the world feels so small that there isn't enough opportunity to use all the toys. They both have pros and cons, and between the two of theme they cover eachother's weaknesses for the most part. I can't really decide which of these fine games has the misfortune to be the worst Shantae game. Try it out on for freeeeee!ģ,4 Half Genie Hero, Risky's Revenge. Problems were that the story was pretty silly, and characters were simplistic, it was sometimes tediously hard, but it worked for me. Also, flying around as a harpy was strangely satisfying. Of course, that was because the game was so damn hard, but also because the world felt HUGE, maybe even bigger than Pirate's Curse. The dungeons were really fun with some great gimmicks, and just getting there felt like a great achievement. Maybe I'm crazy here, but I really liked a lot about the original game.
The story was by far the best, the characters really began to shine, and the world felt great, grand, and gorgeous. Where they took away the shapeshifting, they gave cool weapons that made the gameplay flow better. Not sure how they did it, but they managed to take away practically everything that made Shantae Shantae, and the game turned out to be the best in the franchise. I have played each of the 4 Shantae games, and I'm wondering which one people tend to enjoy the most and least and for what reason.
